Why Should I Care About Discharge/Antiscalant? 
Discharge is a corrosion inhibitor that lowers your cooling tower’s water pH from 6.5 to approximately 7.2 (the recommended range is 7.0–7.6). A discharge/antiscalant helps prevent limestone formation inside your cooling tower, and it also increases efficiency by preventing scale buildup on your equipment and pipes.

Discharge Rate & The Occurrence Of White Sludge:-
In the alkaline process, high calcium sulfate is produced at a fast rate and its dissolved oxygen content may decrease to a certain extent. In such a case, more antiscalants need to be used to dissolve calcium sulfate, which results in high consumption of antiscalants and white sludge. When an oxide scale forms on a surface, it can be very difficult to remove without using an antiscalant.

How Can Antiscalants Help Me Reduce Discharge?
Discharge, or foam, is an inevitable part of many industrial processes. In petroleum refineries and petrochemical plants, for example, discharge from unit operations can sometimes be up to 50 percent. However, it’s not always possible to remove all of it before it enters a water body.
